Suddenly, we are worried about everything that we and our little ones might eat, come into contact with or breathe. We want to make our home environment as safe as possible, but where to begin and how to get it all done?
Low-Stress Ways to Create a Non-Toxic Home
No doubt it can be overwhelming to change up your lifestyle and the products you use. But it doesn’t have to be such a monumental task that it stops you in your tracks. Here are a few ways to make the transition easier…..
Take Baby Steps
Did you notice I said transition? Creating a non-toxic home is not a one and done thing. There’s no magic wand.
The best way to make lasting change is start small and proceed at the rate that works for you and your family. I recommend starting with simple and low-cost changes like the 10 ways to detox your home listed in this guide.
Next, move on to some easy product swaps, like an all-purpose cleaning spray and some of the personal care products that you use most like body lotion or shampoo. Save the big changes like furniture and mattresses for when they fit into your budget and schedule.
Conquer One Room at a Time
A great way to tackle your home detox is to go room by room. Start with the room that concerns you most – be it the kitchen, the laundry room, the bedroom or whatever jumps out to you.

I know it’s tempting to rely on google for all your home detox needs, but I don’t recommend it. First of all, who has time for all that research? Plus, you can’t exactly trust everything you read on the internet. If I believed all the things I read about healthy, eco-friendly living, I’d be living in a yurt, subsisting on goat’s milk and a handful of supplements. Just kidding of course, but you get what I mean.
Instead you should look to trusted sources for your information about non-toxic and eco-friendly living. Sources that are science-based and have a reputation for quality reporting. Some of my favorite resources include the Environmental Working Group (EWG), Safer Chemicals Healthy Families and MindBodyGreen.

Don’t try to do a green and healthy makeover of your home and lifestyle all alone. Talk to your spouse and other family members and friends and ask for their support. Part of that process is also making a commitment to making your home and products as healthy as possible. The more people you get on board with the plan, the more likely it will happen!
