Ingredients for Homemade Perfect Bars

One of the things I love most about these healthy protein bars is that they are made with only 6 wholesome ingredients. You will love this homemade version of peanut butter protein bars with a sprinkling of chocolate chips!

FYI this recipe is most similar to the dark chocolate chip peanut butter version of the Perfect Bar. I’m hoping to make more varieties in the future!

Here’s what you will need to make them:

  • Peanut Butter – I recommend smooth, natural peanut butter (organic if possible, either salted or unsalted). It should be at room temperature for easy mixing.
  • Honey – Any brand will do – I prefer organic honey
  • Vanilla Extract – Make sure it is pure vanilla extract (not artificial)
  • Oat Flour – You can find this in the specialty flour section or make your own
  • Protein Powder – I use whey protein but you can substitute plant-based protein powder if preferred
  • Chocolate Chips – I prefer dark chocolate chips sweetened with stevia (Lily’s baking chips) instead of sugar but any type will work

How to Make Perfect Bars

These healthy protein bars are SO EASY to make! It’s as easy as mixing up 6 ingredients and pressing them into a pan. It’s a no bake recipe so there’s no need to turn on the oven!

Step 1: Line an 8×8 pan with parchment paper. (I used one of my Caraway glass food storage containers – it was perfect for this because it has a lid for easy storage and can even go in the freezer!)

Step 2: Combine the peanut butter, honey and vanilla in a large bowl and mix until smooth.

Step 3: Combine the oat flour, protein powder and a pinch of sea salt in a medium bowl and mix together.

Step 4: Add dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until thoroughly combined. It will be a crumbly, cookie dough type consistency, but not too dry.

Step 5: Press mixture into the prepared pan into an even layer.

Step 6: Sprinkle the chocolate chips on top and press them firmly into the dough.

Step 7: Refrigerate for 20 minutes, then cut into 12 bars. Store the bars in an airtight container in the refrigerator (for up to 2 weeks) or the freezer (for up to 2 months).

How to Store Homemade Perfect Bars

One thing that’s different about these protein bars vs. most store-bought protein bars, is that they need to be refrigerated. That’s because there are no preservatives in them – which is a really good thing!

These Perfect Bar copycats can be stored in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. Or put them in the freezer in an airtight bag and they will last for up to two months.

Can You Make Vegan Perfect Bars?

Yes, you can make a vegan version of a Perfect Bar by substituting maple syrup for the honey and using a vegan protein powder instead of whey protein powder. No problem!
