Best EWG Verified Products For a Non-Toxic Beauty Routine
This guide to EWG Verified products will help you find certified natural, non-toxic personal care and beauty products for the whole family.
One of the toughest things about making the switch to natural, non-toxic bath & body products is knowing whether or not the product you are considering is actually safe and healthy.
You may pick up a product in the store and see “natural”, “botanical” or “clean” on the label. But what does that really mean? Nothing.
Turn the package over and take a look at the ingredients list. You’ll likely see a list of strange-sounding names, even on a product that actually does contain natural ingredients.
So where does that leave you? Confused and frustrated perhaps?
Yikes! I don’t want you to be confused and frustrated. My goal is to help make it EASY to find the natural, healthy, eco-friendly, non-toxic products that work for YOU!

How Certifications Help
Safer products can be identified in a number of ways and I talk about them in this post: How to Buy Non-Toxic Beauty & Personal Care Products.
For starters, you should be aware of the worst ingredients to avoid in personal care and beauty products. You can also use apps like Skin Deep or Think Dirty to get ratings for products or ingredients.
But the easiest tip of all is to look for a trusted certification on the package label. Next time you are shopping, keep your eyes out for these 3rd party certifications for beauty and personal care products: EWG Verified, MADESAFE certified, USDA Organic and NSF/ANSI 305.
Today, I am going to delve into the details of the EWG Verified certification and show you some brands and products that carry it.
EWG Verified
EWG Verified is the gold standard for personal care and beauty products from the Environmental Working Group.
If you are familiar with the Skin Deep Cosmetics Database, you know that products are rated on a scale of 1 to 10 in terms of safety (1 being the best score and 10 being the worst). The EWG Verified mark goes even further and means the products have met the strictest standards of all.
All EWG Verified products:
- Contain ZERO ingredients of concern from the unacceptable list
- Provide full transparency and ingredient disclosure, including fragrance components
- Are scrutinized by a team of toxicologists, chemists and epidemiologists
- Follow manufacturing processes that ensure the safety of their products
To receive the EWG Verified seal, companies must apply and go through a rigorous approval process including documentation of ingredients and manufacturing processes.
EWG Verified Products & Brands I Love
When I see the EWG Verified mark on a product, I can trust that the product is free from harmful chemicals and is totally safe to use. Unless you have an allergy to a specific ingredient, you don’t even need to check the ingredients list because the seal of approval is already there!
On the EWG website you can search for products that are EWG Verified – including skin care, baby care products, makeup, hair care, sun care and more.

Do these products test on animals
I don’t believe animal testing is part of the EWG Verified certification. You’ll have to check with the companies individually on that one!
Hi Micaela! It’s weird, but this is the first time here, but definitely not the last. In 2020 I decided to become more eco-friendly and I try to either create natural cosmetics myself at home, or I use proven eco-friendly brands. I like Avalon Organics a lot and I buy detergents from the Attitude shop. Now I’ve found a cleaning company from Canada that sells its eco-friendly cleaning products and I wonder if it’s worth a try. These are EWF Verified products, have you ever tried them? It’s this page: aspenclean Is it worth it or not?
I have not tried Aspen Clean. Let me know what you think if you try it. I’m a big fan of Attitude – another Canadian brand!
