Homemade Lavender Hand & Body Scrub
Mother’s Day is coming up on Sunday. Will you be relaxing and indulging or taking care of others? A bit of both, I would imagine.
Us moms are pre-programmed for care giving – so even when we have a chance to take the day off, we have a hard time doing it. The laundry, the dishes – they don’t just magically go away on Mother’s Day. I do my best to ignore them but inevitably I get involved in some way or another.
Still, I love to bask in the attention from my boys – the special Mother’s Day meal, the handmade cards, the extra loving. All the daily work is worth those special moments!

Sweet Lavender Scrub
Here’s a sweet gift for the special moms in your life. A little indulgence that doesn’t take much time to make or to use. It’s homemade, contains sugar (but no calories!), and leaves your skin baby soft. Get the kids to help make it – it’s that easy!
All you need are three ingredients (I purchased mine at Whole Foods Market):
- 1 cup raw turbinado sugar
- 1/2 cup sweet almond oil
- 1/2 teaspoon (or about 20 drops) lavender essential oil
Using a small metal or glass bowl, thoroughly mix the oil into the sugar. Add the lavender essential oil and stir well. Scoop the mixture into a glass jar – a classic Ball jar (also from Whole Foods Market) is perfect.
To use, just scoop out a bit and rub over hands, elbows, feet – anywhere that needs extra softening. The sugar crystals provide a gentle scrub, while the oil soaks in and leaves your skin super soft, even after rinsing. I recommend keeping the jar next to the sink for a quick moisturizing scrub after doing dishes or gardening.
Are you doing anything special for Mother’s Day?
(Disclosure: Whole Foods Market provided me with supplies and a gift card in exchange for this DIY focused blog post.)

You are very welcome Robert!
I think I need to make this for myself for Mother’s Day!!
Maybe your kids could make it for you Leigh?
This looks awesome, I’ve been wanting to try my own scrub, thanks for the inspiration!
Love this – have made a similar version with coconut oil before.
I’ve never tried it with coconut oil – maybe next time!
