Favorite Non Toxic Laundry Detergent: Truly Free Laundry Wash
Trust me, I’ve tried MANY non-toxic laundry detergents over the years and I’m happy to say that there are quite a few effective, safe detergent brands. But the best non-toxic laundry detergent I keep coming back to is Truly Free.

Favorite Natural Stain Remover Spray: Molly’s Suds Stain Remover
One of the most important items in your laundry product arsenal is a stain remover – because life is MESSY! Having raised two boys who played sports and love to get dirty, I know a thing or two about getting out stains.
Quite a few years back, I did a stain remover review and one of the clear winners was the natural laundry stain remover from Molly’s Suds.
Here’s why I love Molly’s Suds Stain Remover:
- Safe earth and plant-derived ingredients (none of the typical harmful ingredients in conventional laundry products)
- Formula includes powerful enzymes that break down and lift away stains
- Unscented
- Convenient spray bottle that is easy to use
- Safe for all washable fabrics

Favorite Natural Stain Remover Stick: Meliora Soap Stick
Another one of my indispensable laundry products is the stain remover stick from Meliora.
Here’s why I love Meliora Soap Stick for Stains:
- Made with organic coconut oil and only a couple other safe ingredients
- Safe for most fabrics
- Solid stick is easy to hold
- Easy to rub into tough stains
- Lathers up with water
- Unscented
- Plastic-free packaging (comes in a recyclable paperboard box)
Best Stain Remover for Ink: Amodex Ink & Stain Remover
Recently, I almost ruined my favorite dress when I wiped up a spill with a blue napkin. Blue ink was instantly smeared onto my mostly white dress! Unfortunately, my regular stain removers didn’t cut it for this tough task, but I tried Amodex and it worked! It also got hair dye out of a light green bathroom rug – Yay!
Here’s why I love Amodex Ink & Stain Remover:
- Made with non-toxic ingredients and is safe for skin
- Removed the ink stain but did not harm the other colors in my dress
- Works on ink, dye, Sharpie, crayon and more
- Safe for most fabrics
- Easy to dispense from bottle
- Originally designed to remove printing ink from hands in the 1950’s
- Made in the USA by a women owned business
Best Odor Remover: Bac-Out Stain & Odor Remover
With two boys in sports I simply had to figure out a way to remove the stink from those synthetic sports jerseys! It was not easy but I finally came up with a method that worked.
First, turn the jersey inside-out and douse the underarm area with Bac-Out Odor Remover. Let set for 5 minutes or more. Next, rub some liquid laundry detergent directly onto the same area. Toss into the wash and launder using warm to hot water.
Here’s why I love Bac-Out Stain & Odor Remover:
- A blend of live enzyme-producing cultures work to break down stains and odors into tiny particles and prevent their return
- Works wonders on pet accidents, wine spills, cloth diapers, stinky laundry, disposals, garbage cans and more
- Plant-based ingredients and biodegradable formula
- Made in the USA
Best Oxygen Whitener: Branch Basics Oxygen Boost
I always skip the bleach but I do appreciate adding a scoop of oxygen whitener as a bleach alternative to whiten my whites and to give an extra boost of cleaning power to extra dirty clothes.
Here’s why I love Branch Basics Oxygen Boost:
- Made from just two ingredients: sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) and sodium percarbonate (baking soda and hydrogen peroxide)
- Free from bleach, ammonia, dyes, fragrances and endocrine disruptors
- Unscented
- Biodegradable and Non-GMO
- Comes with a scoop for easy dispensing

Best Fabric Softener: Truly Free Softening Rinse
To be honest, I don’t use a fabric softener very often. We do not have hard water in our home, so I don’t usually find a softener to be necessary. But I do like using a laundry softener on towels and sometime bed sheets to make them extra soft.
Here’s why I love Truly Free Softening Rinse:
- Safe ingredients (Free of harmful chemicals like chlorine bleach, phosphates, artificial fragrances, nonylphenol ethoxylate, and 1,4-dioxane)
- Effective in cold water
- Refillable bottle (concentrated refill pouches are mixed with water)
- Natural scent made from plant and essential oils (Unscented fabric softener is also available)
- Safe for babies and children
Best Dryer Sheet Alternative: Wool Dryer Balls
Since traditional dryer sheets are both wasteful and full of potentially toxic chemicals, I prefer to use natural wool dryer balls as a dryer sheet alternative to fluff my laundry and remove static.
Here’s why I love wool dryer balls:
- Made from 100% New Zealand premium wool
- Reusable over and over again for many loads of laundry (no waste!)
- Helps to speed up drying time and reduce static cling
- Putting a few drops of natural essential oils on dryer balls adds a light fresh scent to laundry
- I prefer lavender essential oil but you can use any type (just made sure it is 100% pure essential oil with no other synthetic fragrances or base oils mixed in)
