Is ButcherBox worth it? This ButcherBox review will help you decide if this sustainable and organic meat delivery service makes sense for your family.

When you are someone who cares deeply about health and the planet, like most of the readers here at Mindful Momma, you will probably find yourself becoming more selective about the meat you choose to feed your family.
If you’re going to eat meat, you want it to be nutrient-dense and also sourced in a way that is healthy for the animals and the environment. But as you may have found, it can be hard to trust the meat you are buying at the store, and you may end up shopping in multiple locations in order to find the meat that you feel good about.
These concerns are what lead to me try ButcherBox many years ago, and why I am still purchasing from them today. Whether you have never heard of ButcherBox before, or are curious to learn whether this popular, sustainable and organic meat delivery service makes sense for you, I’ve got all the details for you in this ButcherBox review post!

I may receive commissions from purchases made through links in this article. Full Disclosure
ButcherBox is a subscription meat delivery service, specializing in organic, grass-fed and humanely raised meat and seafood. All ButcherBox meat is free from hormones or antibiotics and comes from trusted partners that are dedicated to humane practices and sustainable standards.
Selections include 100% grass fed beef, free-range organic chicken, humanely raised pork, and wild-caught seafood, as well as periodic specials like lamb or bison. Orders arrive frozen and carefully packed in a low-waste, eco-friendly box.
Ordering options include their curated selection of meats, or a custom selection of the cuts that work best for you and your family. Boxes range from 8 to 26 pounds of meat, and you can order once a month, or whatever time frame works for you. The classic custom box is what I usually order.

Is ButcherBox Worth It?
I’ve been a ButcherBox customer for many years now, and I can tell you with all honesty, I’ve been super impressed with the quality and selection of the meat! Most of all, I love having it stocked in my freezer, so I can whip up healthy meals for my family quickly and easily. It means I don’t have to shop around town, looking for the meat that I need for the week.
In terms of cost, ButcherBox pricing is higher than you’ll pay for conventional meat. But remember, this is NOT conventional meat. ButcherBox meat is high quality, organic, grass-fed and sustainably sourced. Depending on which package you purchase, you’ll pay anywhere from $4.50 to $5.37 per serving of meat.
A typical ButcherBox order for me is heavy on the chicken, with a bit of pork and beef mixed in. Plus a package of bacon, because their uncured, sugar-free bacon is THE BEST!
Pro tip: Larger cuts of meat, like a whole chicken or a chuck roast tend to be the best value, in terms of cost per pound of meat. Also, be sure to check out their member specials because some of them a great deals!
The customer service at ButcherBox is great too. One time, a package of chicken arrived ripped open and they credited me for that product in my next order. Other than that, I’ve never had any problems with my orders.
So, in answer to the question – Is ButcherBox worth it? For me it definitely is! But don’t just take my word for it, here’s what a couple of my readers have said about ButcherBox:
ButcherBox Makes Sense for You If:
- Eating sustainably sourced, grass-fed and organic meat is important to you – i.e. if you are going to eat meat, you are going to make sure it comes from farmers that care for the animals and the planet.
- You value having a delivery service so you can skip shopping at various stores around town to find the cuts of meat you want.
- You want the peace of mind that you are feeding your family healthy, high-quality meat, without having to think about it every time you shop.
Note: If you think ButcherBox seems too expensive, consider areas where you can cut expenses in your food budget. Cutting back on packaged and processed foods, and takeout can save you a lot of money….and you can put that savings toward healthy, higher-quality meat!
