Homemade Granola Recipe

Ingredients

  • 4 cups rolled oats (use organic if possible)
  • 1.5 cups nuts, seeds or other add-ins ideas: almonds, pecans, cashews, walnuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds
  • 1/2 cup sweetener ideas: honey, maple syrup, date sugar
  • 1/2 cup oil ideas: coconut oil, avocado oil, olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cups dried fruit ideas: craisins, cherries, apricots, mangos, dates, raisins, dried apples
  • 1/3 cup superfoods ideas: flaxseed meal, chia seeds, wheat germ, hemp hearts

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, mix together the oats, nuts and seeds
  • In a small bowl mix together the oil, sweetener, vanilla and salt. If using coconut oil, melt in in the microwave first.
  • Pour wet mixture over dry ingredients and stir until thoroughly coated.
  • Spread mixture onto a rimmed baking sheet (spray pan with cooking spray first or use parchment paper).  
  • Bake at 325 degrees for 20-30 minutes or until nicely browned.  Important:  Stir every 5 to 10 minutes to ensure even cooking. Or if you want clumps, stir once and then press mixture down into baking sheet.
  • Let granola cool, then mix in the dried fruit and superfoods if using.
  • Store in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks or freeze in airtight freezer bags.

Notes

You can easily make your own granola by adjusting the ingredients in this recipe. Try different nuts, seeds, and sweeteners to create a custom granola that fits your taste.
