Aaaaah…..vacation! There’s nothing quite like getting away from the daily grind to give you a renewed spirit and energy for life. We spent the last week on Spring break in Georgia and Florida getting a dose of southern charm and a little bit of much-needed warm sun.
One of our fun discoveries in Atlanta was a sustainable burger place called YEAH BURGER. I’m not much of a burger eater but when I’m in a place known for its burgers, I will go for it! The beef is 100% grass-fed and the other ingredients are organic, natural and healthy. They even have a chalkboard list of all the local ingredients used on any given day. Plus a killer kale salad!
Across the street was a cute garden store with beautiful, log tables and other natural accessories. I could have spent a fortune in there!
After Atlanta, we drove to St. Simons Island on the Georgia coast. Have you been there? It’s beautiful! It was a bit cold for swimming but my boys did it anyway. There was also a lot of frisbee and playing in the sand.
We treated ourselves to more meat at the best southern BBQ joint on the planet – Southern Soul Barbeque. They were out of ribs but we tried beef brisket, pulled pork and this amazing Reuben sandwich. Probably not sustainably raised meat or they would have advertised it – but I’m willing to make an exception for exceptional food. And we were NOT drinking Pabst by the way – that was just the glass they used to serve yummy, local microbrew.
We rounded out the trip with a visit to Amelia Island, Florida, where my Aunt and Uncle spend a good part of the year. What a beautiful place with amazing trees!!
Now we’re back home in Minnesota, with 4 to 8 inches of snow on the way. Ouch!
Did you go anywhere fun for Spring vacation?
