1. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil has gained a reputation as the ultimate multi-tasking product for good reason. Not only is it healthy and delicious to eat but coconut oil has a whole slew of beauty benefits as well. Coconut oil is rich in medium-chain fatty acids (including lauric acid), which provide antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory benefits, as well as being effective at keeping skin hydrated. Coconut oil works wonders for hair, both as an intense moisturizer and as an anti-frizz balm. It is a powerful skincare remedy both on its own, as a moisturizer or makeup remover, and as an ingredient in many DIY skin care recipes including my popular homemade cleansing balm. Coconut oil is also awesome relief for dry cuticles and brittle nails.

2. Apple Cider Vinegar

The trusty bottle of apple cider vinegar in your kitchen can be added to your beauty arsenal too. The natural astringent properties of apple cider vinegar make it perfect for busting bacteria and restoring proper pH levels to your skin, which can also help reduce acne. Use it diluted with water as a skin toner or create a homemade apple cider vinegar toner with essential oils if you prefer. This magic potion is great for hair too! Apple cider vinegar is a popular hair rinse because it closes the cuticle, or outer part of the hair shaft, leaving hair soft, shiny and less frizzy. Bonus: it’s been known as an effective dandruff treatment as well. Natrol Hair, Skin & Nails

3. Natrol Hair, Skin & Nails Gummies

If you really want to give your hair, skin and nails a boost this year, a supplement may be in order. One of my favorite supplement companies, Natrol, makes a supplement specifically for people like us! Natrol Hair, Skin & Nails Gummies contain 5000 mcg of Biotin per serving. Biotin is a B vitamin that is an important nutrient for healthy hair, skin and nails. You do get some biotin in food, but a supplement is the best way to get a consistent amount in your system. These delicious, raspberry flavored gummies are 90% organic, made with organic sweeteners, and are non-GMO, gelatin-free and vegetarian, making them an easy way to support healthy hair, skin & nails! You can find Natrol supplements on Amazon, and at many local stores like Walgreens, Costco, Sprouts and other natural food stores.

4. Argan Oil

Argan oil is an amazing multi-purpose oil for hair, skin and nails! Pressed from the nuts of the Argan tree in Morocco, argan oil is full of antioxidants, essential fatty acids and Vitamins A & E. It’s wonderfully hydrating and nourishing for skin and is non-comedogenic, meaning it will not clog pores. The non-greasy feel makes it perfect for conditioning hair, repairing split ends and taming flyaways. And don’t forget your nails! Argan oil makes a fantastic cuticle oil too.

5. Dry Skin Brushing

Dry skin brushing is a centuries old but often overlooked method for improving skin both inside and out. While dry skin brushing exfoliates dead skin cells, it also increases circulation and stimulates the lymphatic system, which helps with detoxification and boosts the immune system. Just grab a natural bristle brush and brush DRY skin upwards – always moving toward the heart. Then jump in the shower to remove any dead skin. You’ll feel refreshed and invigorated and your skin will reap the benefits!

6. Witch Hazel

Witch hazel is a natural astringent distilled from the bark of the witch hazel (Hamamelis virginiana) shrub or tree. Originally a Native American remedy, witch hazel is known for its healing properties and is popular for postpartum healing as well as a remedy for itches, burns and bug bites. For skincare, witch hazel is most often used as a toner to close pores and soothe skin. It can be used straight (look for alcohol-free witch hazel), or as part of a skin toner recipe. Witch hazel is one of the ingredients in my homemade makeup remover as well.

7. Non-Toxic Nail Polish

An important part of caring for your nails is to use nail polish that is free from the worst chemicals like toluene, camphor, formaldehyde, dibutyl phthalate, heavy metals and parabens. No nail polish is completely chemical free but fortunately, there are many safer nail polish brands available these days. Yes, you can still have beautiful, durable nails using a safer nail polish!

8. Arrowroot Powder

You may have arrowroot powder in your cupboard to use a thickener in food products like soups, sauces and pie fillings. But did you know it has a place in your beauty regimen as well? The silky smooth texture of arrowroot powder makes it a great base for body powder, baby powder and homemade foundation. The oil absorbing properties of arrowroot powder make it fabulous for dry shampoo – a handy product for stretching the time between hair washings. Natrol Beauty Essentials Giveaway

    Hi Micaela,
This is some really great advice. I just think you need to put a warning up about the Biotin. In 2017 the FDA issued a warning that high doses of biotin can interfere with the results of some common blood tests.
