Easy Eco-Tip: Keep a Recycling Bag in Your Car

Easy Eco Tip: Keep a Recycling Bag in Your Car via mindfulmomma.com

Recycling is one of those things that is easy to do – but only when you are set up to do it. Whether you have a fancy set of specially marked recycling bins, or just a big cardboard box like me, once you get the system down, it’s basically a no brainer.

But what about when you are away from home – either running errands around town or on a road trip? Do you still recycle then? When I find recycling bins at restaurants, gas stations or camping spots, I always use them but reality is, they are not always available when you need them. So here’s the tip and it’s a pretty simple one:

Keep a bag or two for recycling in your car. That way, you’ll always have a place to store recyclables until you either find a bin somewhere or arrive home. If you have a storage bag handy, you won’t be tempted to toss those recyclables in the trash.

Obviously you can use any type of bag for recycling – you don’t need anything special. But I love these RecyclerSack bags because they are so pretty, I don’t mind leaving them out for people to see. After your trip, empty out the bag into your own recycling bins and reuse it again and again!

If you like the RecyclerSack idea, you can buy them here. Otherwise, find any old bag and get it in your car, STAT! You’ll thank me on your next road trip.

(Like this Easy Eco Tip? I’ve got more! Have one of your own? Let me know and I might publish it!)

When I travel I just use one of my reusable bags for recycling. I will also often call the hotel to see if they offer recycling, sometimes they do even when they don’t advertise it.

Good point about hotels Lisa. I’ve noticed more hotels do have recycling baskets as well as trash but not always!

Love these ideas – though the goofy gift bags from parties work well too! 🙂

We use the reusable shopping bags we have in the car. They’re already there and it’s a great way to give the product an additional use. Anything to reduce the trash and plastic bags.
