How To Be a Force for Good By Buying From a B Corp
Thank you to Stonyfield for sponsoring this post.
[clear-line]
Think about the way you shop. As you go about buying the things you need for your busy life – the food, the gear, the services – do you choose based on price, function, convenience? That’s the way most of us shop – so don’t feel bad.
But if we want to make our money go further in the world – maybe we should be thinking about something else: the commitment of the company to social and environmental values.
The concept of “shopping your values” is not new, but it’s easy to forget in the whirlwind of life. I know many of you already buy organic, nonGMO and fair trade. Maybe you also look for certifications for animal welfare or safer beauty and personal care products. Did you know there’s a certification for entire companies too?
Let me introduce you to the concept of a B Corp.
What is a B Corp?
B Corp is to business what Fair Trade certification is to coffee or USDA Organic certification is to milk.
“B Corps are for-profit companies certified by the nonprofit B Lab to meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.”B Corps want to be part of something bigger than just selling products. B Corps want to advocate for change, to protect rights and to pass legislation. B Corps want to use their business as a force for good.
The B Corp as a Force For Good
When you choose to buy from a B Corp you are supporting a business model that is better for workers, better for the community and better for the environment. B Corps are:- 68% more likely to donate at least 10% of profits to charity
- 55% more likely to cover at least some of health insurance cost to employees
- 47% more likely to use on site renewable energy
- 2.5 x more likely to give employees paid time off to volunteer in the community
- 28% more likely to have women and minorities in management

Thanks for this information!
Out of the blue this past January we tried a “7 day rescue diet” which eliminates meat and dairy along with salt, oil and sugar from our diets. A month later we don’t see how we could go back to eating meat & dairy, especially. We’ve watched all kinds of documentaries the last month about the impact to our environment and of course, our bodies. It’s turned in to us taking a look at our cleaning products, beauty products and our food so we can make better choices- we give you credit for educating us 🙂
Thanks for opening my mind to something else I didn’t know about, B Corporation products!
I realize that this is a sponsored post by a dairy company, so I do apologize for my comments mentioning that we’re eliminating those types of products from our diet.
LOL – no worries at all! Glad to help educate you about B Corps! And congrats on your new food lifestyle – change is good!
I try hard to support brands that give back whenever I can. King Arthur Flour is a favorite of mine.
Love King Arthur Flour! My husband uses it for baking bread!
