Favorite Natural Body Lotions + a Skin Softening Trick

Two of my favorite body lotion brands made with natural ingredients + a simple skin softening tip.

Raise your hand if you’ve got crocodile skin! Winter is just so darned mean sometimes – as if freezing our buns wasn’t bad enough.

Aside from moving to the tropics (which by the way sounds extremely tempting right now), the best way to combat dry, flaky, itchy skin is to find a body lotion that can stand up to winter’s rampage. Here are two of my favorite moisture-packed lotions made with clean, nourishing ingredients. I’ve been putting them to the test during a sub-zero cold snap in Minnesota – and that’s a hard job!

Acure Ultra-Hydrating Body Lotion

This rich, creamy lotion made with a base of cocoa butter and organic olive oil is enriched with protective plant stem cells, skin-repairing CoQ10 and nourishing evening primrose and argan oils. Fragrance free formula. Vegan. Cruelty free. A kick-butt brand I already love. Best part: Very affordable at $9.99 for 8-oz.

California Baby Calendula Cream

Skin-soothing, organic calendula is the hero ingredient in this gentle moisturizing cream that was designed for babies sensitive skin. Lightly scented with lavender essential oil. This stuff is too good to be used for babies alone! A little more pricey (but worth it!) at $32.50 for 6 oz. Best part: Long-lasting skin softness.

Try this skin softening tip!

You know how dry your skin gets after you shave? Well I’ve taken to adding a dropper full of Acure’s Organic Argan Oil to my lotion after shaving my legs. Argan oil is full of Vitamin E and essential fatty acids to give freshly shaved or extra dry skin the nourishing boost it needs.

Do you have a favorite moisturizing body lotion?

  1. I ran out of face moisturizer two weeks ago and my cheeks hurt so badly right now! I need to look for one with calendula in it!

  2. Lisa @Retro Housewife Goes Green says:

My hands are so dry right now from washing them non-stop to avoid all of the viruses going around. I have been using Juice Beauty’s hand cream, it’s the perfect size for my purse.

  3. I tend to be an organic oil girl myself but winter is so hard here in New York City. When I put on lotion it’s like my skin is gulping in the moisture!! I fell in love with the Earth Mama Angel Baby lotion, which I saw for the first time at ShiftCon. I would love to make my own with my favorite oils though. I’ll have to keep an eye out for a good recipe, in the meantime I’ll definitely be adding some of my favorite oils to my lotions. Great tip! 🙂

  4. I use coconut oil for my face and it makes it so soft. I would love to try the California Baby product since I adore Calendula.

  5. I haven’t tried either of these! I’m always looking for ways to nourish my skin. I’m actually working on a post right now about little things I’ve done to help maintain and help my skin during the winter months. Thanks for the recommendations Micaela!

  6. My skin is so incredibly dry right now. I’m looking forward to trying both of these. I adore both brands and have never tried either lotion. Love your tip for the after shaving dry skin. After I head out on an Acure shopping spree I’m going to give it a try!

  7. I have super sensitive skin but I might have to try one of these. The calendula one looks promising!
